Info:
At the age of 25 DJ/Producer/Radio Show host Gavyn Mytchel literally has the world at his feet. Recently installed as one of The Gallery’s new monthly residents alongside John Askew and Nic Fanciulli, Gavyn has come a very long way in a very short space of time. As one of the friendliest and most out-going DJs in the business, Gavyn’s tireless enthusiasm has not only earned him his very own monthly show on Ministry of Sound Radio, but it’s also made him one of The Gallery’s most popular DJs over recent years and secured him record deals with Armin Van Buuren’s Armada Music label and Tall Paul’s Duty Free Records.
Having spent years traveling down to The Gallery from his Manchester home each week on the train, Gavyn got his lucky break back in 2000 on a chance meeting with Turnmills Promoter Danny Newman at the club. Danny said that if Gavyn really wanted to work for him, then he should come and see him bright and early on the following Monday morning. Having kept him waiting for nearly 2 hours, Gavyn finally got his chance and 3 years on Gavyn is now an instrumental and indeed influential part of the whole Turnmills set up, from DJing to club promotion and booking DJs for The Gallery himself.
As well as recently being made a Gallery resident, in January 03 Gavyn signed up to the prestigious Duty Free Artist Management that includes dancefloor heavyweight Tall Paul, plus big hitters Darren Christian, John Askew and Gleave Dobbin for UK and Worldwide bookings. Having blown the roof off The Gallery with devastating sets alongside the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten, Gavyn was invited onto Fergie’s Radio 1 show in June 03, to record a 30 minute ‘Future Hero’ hot-mix. He then subsequently appeared in Fergie’s Mixmag column as his ‘Future Hero’ DJ of the month, with the Ulsterman describing him as “a very ambitious guy!” This was followed up with a page feature in the September 03 edition of Mixmag (together with John Askew and Nic Fanciulli), where once again he was being hotly-tipped for the top and had the pleasure of a very glamorous photo-shoot in a Clapham pub toilet!!
Gavyn’s relentless energy has also reaped huge rewards in the production stakes as his debut track Insurrection was snapped up personally by Armin Van Buuren for his new Armada Music imprint. Gavyn then signed a three single record deal with Armin and he’s currently in the studio busy working on new material. Gavyn’s follow up dancefloor smash is Forbidden, a full-on tech-trance track that truly reflects his driving dancefloor sound that has made him such a favourite at Turnmills. Having made its way into the hands of Duty Free Records, Forbidden was instantly signed up after only one playing and it’s now set for a full release! Also listen out for Mayhem (“What the fuck is going on!”) Gavyn’s twisted, electro-trance thumper, that’s getting huge support from the likes of Eddie Halliwell, Marco V and John 00 Fleming.
In February 03 Gavyn was asked to host his very own monthly 2 Hour show on Ministry of Sound Radio, which is broadcast between 2-4pm on the third Friday of every month. Titled The Gallery Show, Gavyn welcomes a guest DJ every month for a special hot mix, plus he plays all the latest tracks that are doing the damage on The Gallery’s dancefloor. Already this year the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Gabriel & Dresden, Oliver Klein, Jon O Bir, Marco V, John Askew and Fergie have all dropped in for a mix, with loads more guest spinners scheduled in for next year. Gavyn’s show is already proving to be a huge ratings winner and from January 2004 The Gallery Show will begin a brand new fortnightly slot must be his fast-talking Mancunian charm!!
Also in January 2004 Gavyn will once again feature in Mixmag, possibly on the front cover as one of the DJs to watch out for next year. In fact, 2004 could very well be the year when Gavyn steps up to the big boy league. Just remember where you heard him first!
